Nov 13 | 181 Countries Came Together for Climate Action

It was exciting to see the awareness needle move on Saturday, October 24th for the International Day of Climate Action. We as a company, along with people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet's history.

350.org, the organization behind the effort that is striving to reduce the world’s amount of carbon in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, reported that over 5,200 “actions” were taken that day. That meant that over 5,200 groups of people formed for a picture or video that displayed the number 350 to bring attention to this critical number.

The North Face was active in trying to raise awareness around this initiative. We hung banners in our retail store windows, took over our homepage on our website, took action at our Endurance Challenge, and at our corporate sales meeting that fell on the day of action. We also created a video that included our associates from all over the world from China to Europe to Canada to the US. We all recognize the importance of this issue and encourage everyone to pass the 350 message on.

Just because the International Day of Climate Action has passed, doesn’t mean the chance to get involved is over. Visit their site for next steps, such as signing the pledge that will shown to the leaders in Copenhagen in December, or volunteering to deliver one of the many 350 photos to your local leaders. Just as the folks at 350.org continue on, so we as a company will continue on our sustainability journey. Individually and collectively, we will make a difference.
