A great first day at MDS for Mike -- he finished 8 minutes and 31 seconds behind the leader to secure 2nd place! 3rd place was about a minute behind him. I was relieved to see the results which confirmed he successfully and safely met up with the race after several travel headaches and set-backs (lost luggage which lead to a jet-lagged scavenger hunt Friday night for the compulsory items he had to check like a knife and lighter).

Spirits are up, a little sand in his shoes but feeling good overall about the first day. Only catastrophe is the presence of ants in his tent which lead him to throw away some food. He didn't mind since the other elite runners were making fun of him for the weight of his pack and added calories he was toting around.
