Jul 01 | Megs Pischke on Beach Cleanup in Dominicalito, Costa Rica

Dominicalito is one of our local beaches. Many of us are learning to surf/swim here, and we all spend a lot time playing soccer here and watching our moms and dads surf. Unfortunately its dirty and there is a lot of trash. So we decided to do something about it.

On Saturday we had a beach cleanup with our friends here, and some of the local surfer kids helped us out too. We had gloves and bags, and sunscreen on our faces. Sams dad Derek, then cruised the road next to the beach in his truck and filled the pick up with all the old chairs, tires, and bags and bags of yuck we picked up. Almost a half mile of beach was cleaned.

Then we had a party! We swam, boogie boarded, surfed, drank pipas (coconut water), ate sandia (watermelon). Built sand castles, climbed trees, and ran our tails off chasing a soccer ball!

If you want to organize your own beach cleanup, you can contact www.surfrider.org. OR even easier, just have gloves, or those trash picker uppers (the Claw), and bags, and head to your favorite beach. Guarenteed there is a little something to pick up, to feel good about getting off our beaches. Then be sure to reward yourselves with some watermelon or ice cream.
