Dec 10 | TNF Athlete Alex Honnold Honored By National Geographic

Alex Honnold
Big congrats to our own Alex Honnold,  who has just been named an Adventurer of the Year for 2010 by National Geographic!  Each year, Nat Geo recognizes individuals for extraordinary achievements in exploration, conservation, and adventure sports, and Alex definitely earned this one.

This past July, Alex completed a record-breaking week of climbing in Yosemite, summiting the 3,000-foot El Cap three times and breaking the speed record for consecutive ascents.  Within 24 hours, Alex had scaled more than 8,000 vertical feet and hiked down another 9,000 for trips back to the valley. Amazingly, he broke the record just a week after scaling the walls of both El Cap and Half Dome solo in just over 11 hours.  With each new climb, Alex has left the climbing world slack-jawed, and his Yosemite journey was captured by Sender Films’ First Ascent Series.

This year, National Geographic is presenting a People’s Choice Award, allowing readers to vote every day for their favorite adventurer amongst the nominees. Voting is open now through January 15, 2011 and the winner will be announced in February 2011. Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling.
