The fourth and final 2013 season stop of The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series (PPOS) will take place March 8-10 at Northstar California Resort in Lake Tahoe March. Top professional and upcoming freeskiers will battle it out in two days of slopestyle qualifiers March 8 & 9 before the finals on Sun., March 10. Sunday’s competition will be webcast live starting with the men’s semifinals at 9:30am PST and available for viewing right here! The stream will also be broadcast on Lake Tahoe Television, which is on channels 12, 13, 14, 219 and 220 South Lake Tahoe, CA.

1. 1.     Who Can Play? Open only to legal U.S. residents, 13 or older. (If a minor, the consent of parent/legal guardian is required). 2. 2.      How To Play. Watch the live stream broadcast of The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series Whistler Blackcomb Ski Halfpipe Finals on January 17, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. PST to 2:30 p.m. PST on-line at www.thenorthface.com, The North Face’s official (U.S.) Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thenorthface), and www.thenorthfaceppos.com, as well as other channels.  Contemporaneously with the live stream broadcast, Sponsor will host a live streaming social “chat.” Trivia questions will be posted at varying times during the “chat.” The questions concern freeskiing history, the history of The North Face’s involvement with freeskiing, and The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series.   The first (eligible) person who sends back a tweet with the correct answer to a trivia question (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion) and the Giveaway hashtag #PPOS wins a $50 gift card to The North Face retail stores or www.thenorthface.com. Note:  If you choose to participate in the Giveaway, you agree that, if determined to be a prize winner, your Twitter account name will be included on a winners’ list posted @thenorthface as per Rule 6 below. Sponsor will post (3) trivia questions, with (1) prize available per question, during the Giveaway. There is a limit of (1) prize per person.  If the correct answer is not received within (10) minutes of the trivia question being posted during the “chat” (or if the trivia question is correctly answered by someone who is not eligible for the Giveaway [such as, a non-U.S. resident] or if the trivia question is answered correctly but the Giveaway hashtag has been omitted from the tweet), that trivia question will be deemed void and no prize will be awarded in conjunction therewith. Sponsor will include a notice that a trivia question has been voided within the “chat.”
3. 3.       Rules of Play.  There is a limit of (1) tweet per person per trivia question; and, a given person may only use (1) Twitter account to participate in the Giveaway. Violation of these limits will result in disqualification. TRIVIA QUESTION MUST BE ANSWERED VIA TWEET ONLY. ALL TWEETS REFLECT SOLELY THE OPINIONS OF INDIVIDUALS POSTING SAME, NOT THE OPINIONS OF THE NORTH FACE/VF OUTDOOR, INC. THE NORTH FACE/VF OUTDOOR, INC. EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL LIABILITY WITH REGARD TO THE CONTENT OF ANY TWEET. Use of automated means of participation will result in disqualification. Any dispute as to the identity of the prize winner will be resolved by Sponsor in its sole discretion, based on the identity of the person who is the registered owner of the Twitter account used to participate in the Giveaway.
4. 4.     Winner Notification. The winner will be notified via direct message on Twitter approximately (5) minutes after Sponsor’s confirmation that the answer in his/her tweet is correct. Be sure that your Twitter privacy settings allow for @thenorthface to contact you via direct message.  If winner cannot be contacted for any reason or fails to respond to direct message from Sponsor/@thenorthface within (2) hours of receipt with his/her name and complete mailing address (in the U.S.) for prize shipment, such winner will be disqualified and will forfeit prize. Sponsor may also require winner to sign and return a prize acceptance form as a pre-condition to receipt of prize; and, failure to do so will result in disqualification and prize forfeiture. In case of prize forfeiture, no prize will be awarded for such trivia question.  
5. 5.     General Restrictions. Prizes will be sent to winners via USPS mail to provided address. If won by minor, prize may be awarded in the name of or to his/her parent or legal guardian. No prize substitution except by Sponsor due to prize unavailability for any reason and then for prize of equal value. No prize transfer. Taxes (if any) and unspecified expenses in conjunction with prize acceptance/use are prize winner’s sole responsibility.  Where legal, by accepting prize, winner (if minor, his/her parent or legal guardian) agrees (and will confirm in writing upon request) to use of winner’s name and image for advertising/publicity/trade purposes by Sponsor without further compensation or notice. By participating, entrant (if minor, his/her parent or legal guardian) releases and agrees to hold harmless Sponsor, its parent, affiliates and subsidiaries, and the directors, officers, agents, representatives, shareholders and employees of any of the above organizations, as well as Twitter and Facebook, from any and all liability arising from Giveaway. Tampering with Giveaway in any manner will result in disqualification (if applicable) and Sponsor may otherwise seek to protect its rights to the full extent allowed by law.  If Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that Giveaway cannot be conducted as originally planned due to any cause beyond its control (e.g., computer virus/bug, tampering, fraud), Sponsor may cancel, modify or suspend the Giveaway and make the prizes available to be won in a manner that Sponsor in its sole discretion determines is fair, appropriate and consistent with these Official Rules. Notice of such action will be made during the “chat” and/or after @thenorthface.  Any and all disputes regarding the Giveaway or these Official Rules shall be governed by the internal, substantive law of the State of California. Any action must be brought individually (NOT as part of a class action) in federal or state court in Alameda County, California and, in any such action, a person is only entitled to recover actual costs involved in participating in the Giveaway (if any), with all rights to attorneys’ fees and any and all damages (including special, punitive, consequential damages) being expressly waived.

The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series Continues to Grow

Athlete Registration Opens Thursday, November 8, 2012, 10 AM MST

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (Oct. 29, 2012)– As the first traces of snow dust North American mountain peaks, freeskiing athletes everywhere are revving up for another exciting winter competition season. Falling in line with the anticipation of a great winter, The North Face today announced venues for The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series (PPOS), including Copper Mountain, CO (Dec. 8-9); Whistler Blackcomb, BC (Jan. 14-17); Waterville Valley, NH (Feb. 23) and Northstar California Resort, CA (March 8-10).

“This year’s events are perfectly scheduled to provide prime advancement opportunities for athletes ready to take their freeskiing career to the next level,” said Barb Hamblett PPOS Event Director with Mountain Sports International, Inc. (MSI). “Spectators can expect to see exciting top level competition at all four PPOS stops this season.”

All four PPOS events are part of the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) competition schedule. The Copper Mountain and Northstar California Resort stops will both be International Ski Federation (FIS) sanctioned NORAM CUP events with athletes earning FIS points. Athlete registration for all four PPOS stops will open Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. MST.

“FIS is excited to be able to integrate The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series events in Copper Mountain, CO and Northstar, CA into the 2012-13 FIS Freestyle NORAM CUP,” said Konrad X Rotermund FIS Freestyle Continental Cup Coordinator-Americas. “These events will provide a great opportunity for athletes to get their needed FIS points to be part of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games qualification process and/or earn the opportunity to be the NORAM CUP Champion. Recognizing schedules are very full in North America, it is great to be able to cooperate with the already established PPOS events to give the athletes multiple avenues to meet their competitive goals in a single event.”

Founded in 2010, The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series (PPOS) features slopestyle and halfpipe skiing competitions with $55,000 in total prize value up for grabs. As one of the only open-format event series, amateurs have the opportunity to compete alongside top pros.

"The North Face is excited to bring yet another season of freeskiing competition opportunities to athletes, both professional and amateur, across North America," said The North Face Director of Sports Marketing Katie Ramage. "The progression of the sport of freeskiing is important to us, and this competition format is another way for us to support that movement."

Slopestyle skiing takes place in a venue comprised of man-made features such as rails, boxes and jumps contained on a single slope. Halfpipe skiing takes place in a halfpipe similar to those used for halfpipe snowboarding. Skiers accelerate through the pipe to gain increased height jumping out of the halfpipe while simultaneously executing challenging grabs, spins, flips and other maneuvers. Skiers string together a series of aerials from the halfpipe in a single run. Judging is based on overall impression, including content, difficulty of run, style and use of park or pipe. Both slopestyle and halfpipe skiing will make their Olympic debut in 2014 at the Sochi, Russia Winter Games. The PPOS will work in conjunction with the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) on competition judging with Steele Spence serving as head judge for the series.

“The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series is very important for North American freeskiing athletes,” said Steele Spence, PPOS series head judge. “The series is a stepping stone for athletes hoping to progress to the top level of competition. The events are very well organized with a full panel of AFP certified judges and courses at world-class resorts.”

Association of Freeskiing Professionals
In 2007 world-class athletes and ski industry professionals formed the AFP to ensure the progression of the sport, its athletes and its culture were maintained while bringing freeskiing to a mainstream audience.  By uniting events worldwide under one true world ranking and implementing standards to ensure consistency in judging, competition scheduling and event sanctioning requirements, the AFP has legitimized the sport of freeskiing. 2012-13 FIS Freestyle NorAm Cup
2012-13 FIS Freestyle NorAm Cup is a competitive series of events, primarily designed to provide opportunity for United States and Canadian Athletes in Freestyle Skiing to gain pre-world cup experience.  As a region of the FIS International Continental Cup worldwide series of events, the NORAM CUP is part of the path to the World Cup, World Ski Championships and Olympic Winter Games for all Freestyle Skiing athletes.  This seasons NORAM CUP will host 36 Events in 16 Locations for both Lady and Men athletes in the Olympic Freestyle Skiing disciplines of ski cross, moguls, halfpipe, slopestyle and aerials with total prize purse of over $120,000 to be awarded.
